Bobby Doyle Scholarships and Youth Running Fund
Proceeds from the race will support the Bobby Doyle Scholarships and Youth Running Fund, which are devoted to enhancing and supporting high school and youth running in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Two $1,500 scholarships will be awarded to a male and female high school student based on athletic and academic performances, and two $1,000 scholarships for a male and female high school student who is a sibling of a police officer, firefighter or military. In addition, the Hollie Walton $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a minority student based on his/her academic and athletic achievements. Over $50,000 has been donated over the past eight years!
Bobby Doyle, Rhode Island’s marathon king, began his legendary running career at Hope High School as a junior in 1966. Within five months he became the state’s premier high school distance runner. His achievements earned him an athletic scholarship to the University of Texas at El Paso. In his sophomore year, Bobby earned All-American honors as a member of the 1969 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championship Team. After college he continued to race competitively , forming the Johnson & Wales A.C. with many of his closest friends.

- Represented the USA at the 1979 Pan American Games in Puerto Rico
- Seven time winner of the Ocean State Marathon
- Competed in the 1980 and 1984 Olympic Marathon Trials
- Won numerous marathons spanning three decades – a world record
Scholarship applications are accepted yearly from December 1 through February 28.
